Visual how you make decisions. What is your model? If you had to explain it to someone could you? Until a few days ago, I couldn’t.
Turns out that a friend makes decisions like in a strict flow chart; yes and no. If there is maybe; the responses are yes or (go or no go). It was interesting to talk with them and find out the essentially this is how decisions are made at work also. We are surrounded by things and ways we find comfortable.
For me: This leaves the decisions making clear; so long as you are asking the right question to begin with. A flow chart seems like a tough rigid model.
Let’s say this isn’t how I would describe my decision making model. Clearly, there are flaws in mine as well . . . but, let’s say I like mine . . .
Imagine bubbles of different sizes. The decision bubble is in the middle and everything that reasonably (in my opinion) impact on the decision is also in a bubble. The importance of the “impact bubble” is determined by both the size of the bubble and how much it is pressing on the “decision bubble”. The decision bubble is also sized according to its importance and the strength of the bubble has something to do with the need for precision in the decision. At some point the decision bubble either does or does not burst.
Time must be another bubble and surround the “decision bubble” because time either protects the decision from being made too early or forces the decision to be made NOW.
Mind you, I am still working out how I make decisions and this might not be completely accurate or correct in all its details; it is the best I can do today. It will, therefore, have to do. If you wish . . . ask questions about it and I will do my best to get to an answer.
