So, part of “getting into” anything is dipping your toe and enjoying and then finding out more about the “landscape”. Having enjoyed quite a few cigars this year, I decided to venture into actually finding out something about them. Can you imagine?
As it turned out, sled had a book on cigars. I read “Cigars” by Red Howard. It was an interesting read; but didn’t really satisfy my NEED to know more about cigars. It is a good coffee table book though.
After reading this, I spent some more time enjoying cigars and analyzing what it was that I really wanted to know. I opened up some old cigars to see what was inside and learned some and just floated around in the ambiance of the cigar world. Subscribed to Cigar Magazine. I passed over Cigar Aficionado as it was too lifestyle oriented. I talked with a few people about what I was looking for and still nothing. There are FEW cigar books in Atlanta bookstores! Help, simply wasn’t getting anywhere.
Then, I went to Amazon and typed in Cigar and looked through TONS of books . . . only to find out that I needed “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Cigars” by Tad Gage. I ordered it with some trepidation; expecting it to be much less than I was hoping for. Instead, I was HUGELY surprised at the amount of information, its concise and readable presentation, and how it will serve as the first cornerstone in my cigar library. Really, this is an essential.
In future blogs regarding cigars I will be referring to this book; hoping to integrate information into my experience and to educate the neophyte cigar enthusiasts like me.
