I and several friends use this recipe.  We find the clothes at least as clean . . . and we KNOW what chemicals are being used in our home.

Ingredients:

1 bar Ivory or (Fels-Naptha)

1 cup washing soda

1/2 cup Borax

Directions:

1.  Grate or shave the soap.

2.  Place 4 cups of hot water in a sauce pan and add soap.

3.  Cook on medium until all the soap dissolves.

4.  Stir constantly.

 5.  Fill a five gallon bucket half full with hot water.

6.  Add soap mixture, washing soda and Borax.

7.  Stir until dissolved. Fill the bucket to the top with hot tap water.

8.  Stir.  Seal.  Let cook over night or rest in the bucket until you need more.

 9.  Pour 1/2 gallon of soap mixture into a large bowl or bucket.

10. Add 1/2 half gallon of hot water and stir well until mixed.

11. Pour into gallon jugs.  Put lid on top and store.  Shake well before using.

 Quantity Information:

1.  Make 10 Gallons

 2.  Use 1/2 cup per load or 2/3 cups for heavily soled laundry.
